About:

Where it began

I have been painting slates for around 10 years now. I was always good at art at school however as life developed for me, it was largely forgotten. In my thirties, I suddenly and without warning developed Chronic Pain and needed to have a period of time away from work. At that time, my Nephew was young and was involved in a local craze of painting rocks to hide around local parks and woods for other Children to hunt for. This was with the plan to try and get Children away from computer screens and out enjoying nature. So while I was off from work, my Nephew asked me to paint some for him to hide. I began doing so and found this was a really good distraction from my pain. Over time, people finding my stones began to ask me to paint them commissions. Over time I began to need a larger natural canvas to work with, it was then that I began to use Recycled Slate and my art developed from there.

Where it is now

All my slate is Recycled or reclaimed from Cornwall. With much of it being hundreds of years old having been taken off old roofs across the county when they have been being replaced.

I love how the slate makes the paint really stand out. Each of my makes is 100% hand painted from start to finish. The animals and birds I paint are all created by imagination meaning when you purchase one of my paintings there shall never be one the same. However, I do often recreate popular designs a number of times however due to them all being created by memory and by hand, there are never two paintings completely the same.

I love to use my quirky style and use of colour to create artwork that makes people smile. There truly is no better feeling than someone liking your work enough to buy it.
